What Is DALMAC®?

The Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinaw Bicycle Tour, which is a bicycle camping tour, was originated in 1971 by former State Representative Dick Allen of Ithaca. The objectives of DALMAC are to develop an awareness of bicyclists and their needs among the citizens of Michigan, to promote bicycling as a healthy means of transportation and recreation, and to encourage wider use of bicycles. DALMAC is staffed exclusively by volunteer members of the Tri-County Bicycle Association (TCBA).

All routes begin at the MSU Pavilion in East Lansing and follow country roads, whenever possible, an attempt to provide the safest, most scenic routes between campgrounds.

Who Can Ride?

DALMAC is open to anyone capable and interested in bicycling our tour. Riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or responsible adult who must ride with them. We reserve the right to reject future applications or remove riders from the tour without refund for violations of the DALMAC rules.

Preparing For Dalmac®

For your enjoyment, you and your bicycle should be in good condition. You should be able to make your own minor repairs. Pace yourself to allow for food and rest stops and to arrive at each day’s destination for dinner by 5:00 p.m. To help you achieve this pace, we have developed Suggested Advance Guidelines (S.A.G.) that you will find in your map booklet. Times are marked and indicate the minimum distances that should be covered by the times listed.

For Your Safety

  • Bicycle helmets are required
  • Bicycle flags are recommended.
  • No headphone devices are allowed while riding (including Ipods, Bluetooth, etc.)
